Julie Del Giorno: The Life Behind The Athletics Integrity Officer
In 2012, in compliance with NCAA and Big Ten, Penn State entered into the Athletics Integrity Agreement in an effort to reform the university as it ushered in the post-Sandusky . In order to complete the requirements put forth by the university, Penn State created a new position titled the Athletic Integrity Officer. After much searching, the first officer was appointed: Julie Del Giorno. Her position with the university is not widely known, and as intriguing as her job is, the person behind the title is even more fascinating.
Penn State’s First Female Football Letterman
A fall Saturday in State College just isn’t complete without football. Thousands of students, alumni, and fans converge on Beaver Stadium, all in support of their Nittany Lions. The 50-yard line holds the family ticket section, where mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers cheer on their children.
For the last four years, the Keller family hasn’t been concerned with how many yards, how many catches, how many sacks their favorite player gets. In fact, their child won’t even step foot on the field. Katie Keller holds a camera instead of a ball and wears a polo instead of a jersey, but the lack of a uniform didn’t stop her from becoming Penn State football’s first female letterman
Go Canning For The Penn Staters Who Never Will
I knew about THON and canning before I ever even stepped foot on Penn State’s campus. I come from a town included in the infamous “outside of Philly,” area, where canning is frequent during the fall months. I remember watching students jump around on street corners in ridiculous outfits, earning every cent that was placed in their cans. I couldn’t wait to be one of them.

Transportation research results in Fred Burggraf Award
A team of Penn State civil engineers were presented with the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Fred Burggraf Award for their paper on transit signal priority. The paper titled, “Estimating the Impacts of Bus Stops on Transit Signal Priority on Intersection Operations: A Queuing and Variational Theory approach,” was co-authored by assistant professors of civil engineering Ilgin Guler and Vikash Gayah, along with civil engineering doctoral student Kan Wu. The Fred Burggraf Award recognizes excellence in transportation research by researchers 35 years of age or younger.
Penn State professor dedicates life to engineering education
Harry West’s civil engineering career had a simple beginning. At the age of 10, he observed college students at a summer surveying camp at the northern New Jersey campus of The Cooper Union. That experience was to civil engineering, and the knowledge he gleaned there sparked his love for the industry.
Decades later, West’s successful career as a civil engineering professor and researcher at Penn State has left an impact on his students that is anything but simple.

First Pick Press Kit
First Pick is a start-up app created to help people connect through the power of sports. They were a client with Happy Valley Communications with a public relations strategy focused around the launch of the application. As an Account Executive I worked with my team to help create a media kit for First Pick to pitch to local media. The pitch resulted in positive media coverage by local outlets prior to the applications launch.
April The Giraffe, A Public Relations Gold Mine
As a member of Happy Valley Communications I was asked to contribute to the firm blog every semester. The content focused on industry advice and public relations case studies. I chose to focus one of my posts on the pregnant giraffe April, from the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, and how her story created a public relations gold mine.
